Facebook says it will not compensate users in the scandal over the misuse of their personal data by political consultancy Cambridge Analytica. The company made the statement today in a list of written replies to questions by European Union lawmakers. The answers were promised after testimony earlier this week by CEO Mark Zuckerberg in Brussels had left EU lawmakers frustrated about a lack of responses.
Cambridge Analytica used the data of millions of Facebook users to target ads during political campaigns, including the US presidential vote. EU lawmakers said that would make Facebook liable for compensation toward EU users. Facebook said that was a "breach of trust," but no bank account details had been shared. And it said there was no evidence EU user data had been involved.

A fire engulfed a home for elderly welfare recipients in northern Japan, killing 11 people, Japanese police said Thursday.The fire broke out before midnight Wednesday in Sapporo, the main city on the northern main island of Hokkaido. Three of them were being treated at a hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening, they said.Police so far identified the 11 victims only as eight men and three women. All 16 residents at the facility have been accounted for, said a police press official who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not permitted to speak on the record.Footage on public broadcaster NHK showed flames and smoke pouring out of the three-story building as firefighters battled the blaze.The cause of the fire is under investigation.The building was a former three-story inn that had been rented by the operator for use as a group home for the poor, and was about 50 years old, Kyodo News reported. The building lacked sprinklers, which were not compulsory for the type of facility, Kyodo said.

Sheikh Saud said 381 people had been subpoenaed in total. Some were released because officials were unable to provide "sufficient evidence" to support the allegations against them, while others were freed after "admitting to corruption allegations" and settling with the government.The attorney general said 56 people remain in custody.One of the highest profile suspects, billionaire Alwaleed bin Talal, was released on Saturday. The conditions of his freedom remain unclear, and the country's ministry of information said it would not comment on his situation. Alwaleed, the founder of Kingdom Holding, told Reuters hours before his release that there were "no charges" against him.Saudi Arabia's finance minister said last week that some of the cash recovered will be used to fund state handouts that were announced earlier by King Salman to ease the pain of government subsidy cuts and tax hikes.

The Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed Padmaavat has been banned in Malaysia by the country’s censor board as the film touches on the “sensitivities of Islam”.The chairman of National Film Censorship Board (LPF) Mohd Zamberi Abdul Aziz has said the lavishly-mounted film was not cleared as it might offend the Muslims in the country.“The storyline of the film touches on the sensitivities of Islam. That in itself is a matter of grave concern in Malaysia, a Muslim-majority country,” Aziz was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.
The film, starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, is based on the 16th century epic, Padmaavat by poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi.The film faced controversy at home as well after various Rajput groups accused Bhansali of “distorting historical facts” with the portrayal of queen Padmavati, a claim repeatedly denied by him.
According to the report, Aziz said the distributors of the film had filed an appeal against the ban which would be taken up by the Film Appeals Committee on January 30. “Currently, LPF is unable to provide further comments as the film distributor has submitted an appeal to the appeals committee.“Therefore, further comments will only be issued after the appeals committee has made its decision,” Aziz said.
The film was released on January 25 in India after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cleared it last month with a ‘U/A’ certificate and five modifications, including title change from Padmavati to Padmaavat.In Pakistan, the censor board cleared film without any cuts for screening with a ‘U’ certification.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the raid, which comes days after a Taliban suicide attacker driving an explosives-packed ambulance blew up in a crowded area of the city, killing and wounding hundreds.

At least 15 people were killed in a blaze at a hospital in South Korea on Friday, authorities said, with 11 more critically injured. Video footage and pictures showed a helicopter flying above the building in Miryang, engulfed by heavy grey smoke and surrounded by multiple fire trucks. The national fire agency told AFP that 15 people had been confirmed dead, 11 were in critical condition, and 40 more were injured.
“Two nurses said they had seen fire suddenly erupting in the emergency room,” said fire chief Choi Man-Woo, but the cause of the blaze was not immediately known. All the patients had been evacuated from the hospital and a nursing home in the same building, he added. “The victims came both from the hospital and the nursing home. Some died on their way to another hospital.”
Around 200 people were in the Sejong Hospital building when the fire broke out, police said. The fire came only a month after 29 people were killed in an inferno at a fitness club in the South Korean city of Jecheon — a disaster blamed on insufficient emergency exits, flammable finishing materials and illegally parked cars blocking access to emergency vehicles.

Hosts West Indies will defend the title they won with an eight-wicket victory over Australia in Kolkata in 2016. Stafanie Taylor, who was named as captain of the ICC Women's T20I Team of the Year 2017, won the player of the series award in India and is expected to once again lead the Windies in front of a passionate home crowd. The three venues were selected by Cricket West Indies through a bidding process and have been ratified by the ICC.
The preliminary round matches will be held at the Guyana National Stadium and Daren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia, while Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and Barbuda will stage the two semi-finals and the final. ICC Chief Executive David Richardson said: “Windies women are the reigning champions and I've no doubt they ll be looking to defend their title on home soil. We are keen to build on the momentum from this summer s Women s World Cup and I'm sure the players can rely on a warm welcome from the legendary cricket fans in the West Indies and we're all in for a great experience in the Caribbean,” he said.
Windies captain Stafanie Taylor added: “As captain of the defending champions, we are keen on defending our title and since we know we will be at home, we want to use this as an opportunity to welcome the world to the region for top-class competitive Women’s cricket.” The hosts will be joined by Australia, world champions England, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka who have all achieved qualification.
The remaining two spots will be taken by Bangladesh, Holland, Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Scotland, Thailand, Uganda or United Arab Emirates, all of whom will compete in the ICC Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier in the Netherlands from 3-14 July. The November event in the Caribbean will be the first stand-alone ICC Women's World Twenty20 after the past five events were played alongside the men s event.
The Caribbean hosted the World Cup in 2007 and then staged the World T20 in 2010 when the league matches of the women's tournament were played in St Kitts, while St Lucia hosted the two semi-finals. The final in Barbados was played after the men's final and was won by Australia when they beat New Zealand by three runs.

Asked about the motivation to play in the Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament, he said: "I play each and every tournament with the same intent. The tournament has many big names and before the IPL and upcoming Asia Cup it's a nice opportunity." The CSK vice-captain further said the tournament will give him an opportunity to see the talented youngsters ahead of the much-anticipated IPL auction on January 27 and 28. "There are a lot of exciting youngsters like Rinku Singh, there's also Kuldeep (Yadav) who will play a couple of matches before heading to South Africa. It's a chance to see many youngsters," Raina said.
Raina said small town cricketers have changed the mindset of the game completely. "The small town cricketers have done well in recent times. Look at (Mohammed) Shami. Air travellers in India and also those flying over the country can now have onboard access to internet and mobile phone services with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) allowing in-flight connectivity (IFC). The decision paves the way for airlines to offer these services once they meet certain security norms. While internet can be provided from the moment a plane taxies and personal electronic devices (PEDs) put on "flight mode", mobile phone services will be allowed when aircraft are flying above an altitude of 3,000 metres. The operation of MCA (mobile communication on aircraft) services has a minimum height restriction of 3,000 metres in Indian airspace to ensure its "compatibility with terrestrial mobile networks".
"We have allowed both mobile communication on aircraft (MCA) and onboard internet as IFC in Indian airspace. Now it is up to airlines which one of these to offer," said a Trai official. Most airlines globally offer Wifi on board as allowing mobile calls is seen as "too much of a nuisance" for fellow travellers.The final nod comes almost three years after the aviation ministry first mooted the idea. No Indian airline, however, has said if and by when they will offer IFC on their flights. Vistara said it "continually reviews (its) product offerings and this will be reviewed as part of that process".
Foreign airlines which already provide IFC but had to switch the same off in Indian airspace also did not say if they will now provide it on flights to, from and over India. Trai has recommended a separate category of "IFC service provider" which will be "required to get itself registered with the department of telecom and it need not necessarily be an Indian entity". Also, the regulatory requirements could be the same for both Indian and foreign airlines for offering IFC services in Indian airspace.
"To promote the adoption of IFC services in Indian airspace, the IFC service provider should be imposed a flat annual licence fee of a token amount of Re 1. " However, the same may be reviewed and amended at a later stage, if need be," Trai says. A uniform framework will cover all types of aircrafts - schedule airlines, charters and business jets. "The deployment of a gateway in India provides an effective mechanism to intercept and monitor the in-cabin internet traffic while the aircraft is in Indian airspace. The onboard internet traffic must be routed to a satellite gateway on Indian soil. Such an obligation should be imposed regardless of whether the satellite in question is an Indian satellite system or not," Trai says.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said there is no danger of a war with India though both countries should ensure there is no escalation of the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir.Abbasi, who was chosen as the premier by the ruling PML-N after the Supreme Court ousted Nawaz Sharif for dishonesty last year, also ruled out the possibility of action against Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed, saying there were no cases against him in Pakistan.
“I don’t think there is a danger of war, at least from our side, it isn’t there. Pakistan has never taken unilateral action, we have always demonstrated responsibility,” Abbasi said in an interview with Geo News channel that was aired on Tuesday night.Responding to a question on the Indian Army chief’s remarks about calling Pakistan’s “nuclear bluff” and possible cross-border operations, Abbasi said: “The Indian Army chief will not speak in favour of us. It is a fact that Pakistan has nuclear capability and we have demonstrated it, and there is need for India to understand that (when) there are violations of the Line of Control, these things will not go without retaliation.“It is necessary for both countries to stay away from escalation,” he added.
Referring to the Indian army chief’s remarks, he said, “If they believe on the other side there will be some political benefits and they keep making statements, as their military leadership has done, this has never been good for peace.”Asked why Pakistan was not taking action against Hafiz Saeed despite pressure from India and the US, Abbasi said: “There is no case against Hafiz Saeed sab in Pakistan. If there was a case, action would be taken. This is an issue that comes to the fore repeatedly but there is no truth in it.”Saeed was placed under house arrest for 10 months last year, largely because of pressure from the Paris-based Financial Action Task Force (FATF), which is currently looking into Pakistan’s efforts to crack down on terror financing. The US was angered by the release of the alleged mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attacks and warned there could be retaliation if Pakistan does not re-arrest and prosecute Saeed.
In response to another question on Saeed’s efforts to enter the political mainstream with his Milli Muslim League party, Abbasi said the Election Commission alone would decide on the party’s registration according to existing guidelines. “The government doesn’t interfere in that,” he said.Abbasi also said there has been no change in Pakistan’s stance that Kashmir remains the “core issue” with India. “On our core issue, there are no two opinions – our views are what they were on day one,” he said.“We have always said the doors are open for talks but in a dignified and respectable manner, in which there can be a meaningful dialogue without compromising on the core issue of Kashmir,” he said. Abbasi said there was “nothing new” about the reported secret meetings between the National Security Advisers of India and Pakistan. “This sort of meetings keep happening, this is not something new and such meetings help in understanding each other’s positions and to convey messages,” he said.

Cartosat-2 Series satellite was successfully launched onboard PSLV-C40 rocket on January 12 by ISRO from its spaceport at Sriharikota.ISRO had then said the satellite would be brought to its final operational configuration in the next few days following which it will begin to provide high-resolution scene specific spot imageries using its panchromatic (black and white) and multi spectral (colour) cameras.
Cartosat-2 is an advanced remote sensing satellite similar in configuration to earlier six spacecraft in the series and intended to augment data services to the users.The images sent by the satellite will be useful for cartographic, urban and rural applications, coastal land use and regulation besides Geographical Information System applications, among others.Thirty other satellites, including 28 from foreign countries, were also successfully launched by PSLV C-40.

Someone told me plan was being made to kill me in an encounter," Togadia claimed.Togadia, who went missing yesterday after Rajasthan Police came to arrest him in a ten-year old case and was later found admitted to a hospital in unconscious state, claimed that attempts were being made to silence him for raising the voice of the Hindu community.The VHP leader said he will surrender before the court in Rajasthan after he is discharged from hospital."Yesterday morning, I was performing pooja, when messages came that a large contingent of Rajasthan Police, along with Gujarat Police, was coming to encounter me (kill me in an encounter)," Togadia claimed."After informing my security guards, I, along with a VHP worker, took an auto-rickshaw, and went to Theltej area of the city. I called up Rajasthan chief minister (Vasundhara Raje) and home minister (Gulabchand Kataria) but they denied their police had come to Gujarat to arrest me. This raised more suspicion and I switched off my mobile phones," he said."I contacted lawyers of Rajasthan and told them to get the arrest warrant cancelled. But they said that it was difficult as court issued it. So I decided to go to Jaipur by taking a flight and appear before the court (in Gangaput)," he said."However, when I was going in the auto-rickshaw to the airport, I felt dizzy and asked the driver to take me to some hospital.
Then I fell unconscious. When I regained consciousness, I was at an unknown hospital," he said."I do not fear death, I do not fear encounter. But I had to protect myself while following the law of the land," he said."I have been raising my voice for Hindus. I am raising issues like Ram temple, national law to ban cow slaughter, resettlement of Kashmiri Hindus in that state, giving farmers fair price for their crops. But an attempt is being made to silence my voice," he said."Old cases are being reopened, so that I can be arrested. An attempt is being made to stifle my voice by arresting me in different states," he said.To a query, Togadia said he would reveal the names of those behind the plot to silence his voice, at the right time."Rajasthan Police had come to arrest me, but the chief minister and home minister of that state were not aware about it. Same way it happened in Gujarat. When Gujarat court issued a warrant against me, the Gujrat chief minister (Vijay Rupani) here, or home minster (Pradeepsinh Jadeja) were not aware about it," he said."On whose orders are police is taking such action will be revealed by me at an appropriate time and with evidence," Togadia said.An arrest warrant was issued by Ahmedabad court recently against Togadia and he had appeared in the court on January 6 to get it cancelled.He also claimed that CBI was threatening doctors associated with VHP.The mystery over Togadia's disappearance yesterday has deepened, with a senior police officer maintaining that neither the local Sola police nor Rajasthan Police had arrested him.
The VHP had yesterday claimed that Togadia was detained by Rajasthan Police in connection with the case, but the latter denied this. Sola police station officials said a team of Rajasthan Police visited them yesterday to execute an arrest warrant against Togadia under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), but could not find him at his residence.According to a statement issued yesterday by the VHP in Delhi after Togadia was found, Togadia, who suffered from low blood sugar levels, was found in an unconscious state in Shahibaug area and was taken to Chandramani Hospital located in the same area.VHP workers had taken to the streets yesterday and halted traffic and held demonstrations after their leader was untraceable.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday termed as ‘absolutely illegal’ any attack by khap panchayats or associations against an adult man and woman opting for inter-caste marriage. A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, comprising of Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud, observed that an adult girl or man can enter into marriage and no society, parents or panchayat can stop them.
The court was hearing a petition against Khap panchayats, where it asserted that if the Centre does not act towards banning them, then the court will step in. The bench also asked the Centre to give its response on suggestions earlier given by amicus curiae (friend of the court) Raju Ramachandran on ways to prevent harassment and killing of young couples in the name of family honour for marrying inter-caste or intra-clan (gotra).
“Whatever the amicus curiae says about khap, we are not concerned with that. What we are concerned is that if an adult girl or boy gets into marriage, no khap, no individual or no society can question them,” the bench observed. The bench told the Centre that it will not give its suggestion on the suggestion given by amicus curiae, assisting the court in the matter, and the court would contemplate passing an order based on the amicus’ suggestion.The apex court had earlier sought suggestions from an NGO ‘Shakti Vahini’, amicus curiae and ‘Khap Panchayats’ on the issue.
Khaps are caste or community organisations in villages which at times act as quasi-judicial bodies and pronounce harsh punishments based on regressive and age-old customs and traditions.

Minister for IT Nara Lokesh and Minister for Tourism Development Bhuma Akhila Priya held discussions with the representatives of Alibaba Company in this regard in Hyderabad on Saturday, an official release here said. Under the agreement with the the company, it is to impart technical training in e-commerce to the unemployed youth and provide them jobs. Ms Akhila Priya said within 10 days, the AP government would sign an MoU with the Alibaba company in this regard. The Minister informed that initially she held discussions with the representatives of Alibaba company for employment generation in Tourism department.However, it was proposed to expand the programme to other sectors also. In this regard, Alibaba company Business Development Head in India, Wonder Chang, TDI Global Head Sanjay Sharma held discussions with Mr Nara Lokesh. Mr Wonder Chang said the company would impart training to over 20,000 unemployed youth in e-commerce, marketing and technical training in order to augment their employment opportunities and help them getting jobs.

About 1,500 people are being evacuated from an island off the northern coast of Papua New Guinea (PNG) after a nearby volcano erupted for the first time, the local Red Cross said on Sunday. A volcano on the island of Kadovar, located about 24 km (15 miles) north of the Papuan mainland, began erupting on 5 January which prompted the evacuation of 590 people to the nearby island of Blup Blup.
After venting ash for several days, the volcano exploded on Friday, blasting out burning rocks and sulphur dioxide, the Rabaul Volcanological Observatory said in a bulletin. It is the first time the volcano has erupted in known history. The PNG government subsequently decided to evacuate Blup Blup as well because of difficulties with supplying people on the island along with the danger from the eruption.
The evacuees are being moved to the mainland and the International Red Cross is providing about 87,000 kina (£19,720) in funding to help them, said PNG Red Cross Secretary General Uvenama Rova speaking from the capital of Port Moresby. “As the volcano erupted, the people rushed immediately to escape. So they are in immediate need of food, water, shelter and clothing as well,” On Sunday, the Observatory said a dome of lava on Kadover was visible in the sea at the base of thick white steam clouds that rose to 600 metres (1,969 feet) above sea level.
Australia’s Foreign Minister Julie Bishop announced on Twitter that the Australian Government was contributing A$25,000 (£14,400) worth of humanitarian supplies for those affected.There are no confirmed records of a previous eruption of Kadovar, said Chris Firth, a vulcanologist at Macquarie University, but scientists speculate it could have been one of two “burning islands” mentioned in the journals of a 17th-century English pirate and maritime adventurer, William Dampier.
Dampier may have recorded the last eruption of Kadovar during a voyage in search of “Terra Australis”, the southern continent once though to be mythical, Mr Firth added. When the 365m tall volcano began erupting on Sunday, experts feared it could lead to landslides and tsunamis in the area. Now scientists are interested to observe the volcano’s behaviour since they have nothing to compare it to.

Bouncing back strongly from its recent failure, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Friday successfully launched the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C40) from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota.The PSLV -C40 successfully placed Cartosat-2 series satellite into sun synchronous orbit, Isro said.
“ISRO is starting 2018 with the successful launch of our Cartosat small satellite, nanosat and microsat and 28 customer satellites,” A.S.Kiran Kumar, Isro’s chairman said to loud applause within the command centre.The success of Friday’s launch comes about four months after Isro’s PSLV-C39 failed following a technical snag involving the heat shield.
“The last launch on the PSLV, whatever heat shield problems we had faced, the committees went through rigorously and then found corrective measures that were required to make the system more robust and today what has happened vindicates that the problem is properly understood and rectified and we are extremely happy to provide a new year gift to the country with Cartosat series,” Kumar said.
The 710 kg Cartosat-2 series satellite for earth observation and 30 co-passenger satellites together weighing about 613 kg at lift-off.The co-passenger satellites comprise one Microsatellite and one Nanosatellite from India as well as 3 Microsatellites and 25 Nanosatellites from six countries, namely, Canada, Finland, France, Republic of Korea, UK and USA. The total weight of all the 31 satellites carried onboard PSLV-C40 is about 1323 kg, according to information provided by ISRO.

A group of researchers, however, have claimed that a security flaw can allow WhatsApp Group chats to be snooped.According to researchers, the security flaw can let anyone with control of servers of the instant messaging service add people to a WhatsApp Group chat without the permission of the admin of the group. We chose to analyse WhatsApp, because it is one of the most widely used instant messenger applications with more than one billion users, noted the paper on WhatsApp’s group messaging vulnerabilities.
“The confidentiality of the group is broken as soon as the uninvited member can obtain all the new messages and read them,” Wired cites Paul Rosler, who was one of the Ruhr University researchers who co-authored a paper on the group messaging vulnerabilities. “Only an administrator of a WhatsApp group can invite new members, but WhatsApp doesn’t use any authentication mechanism for that invitation that its own servers can’t spoof,” the paper said. So, the server can simply add a new member to a group with no interaction on the part of the administrator.
The smartphone of every participant in the group then automatically shares secret keys with that new member, giving him or her full access to any future messages, claimed the researchers. The described weaknesses in WhatsApp enables attacker, who controls the WhatsApp server, to break the transport layer security, to take full control over a group. Entering the group however leaves traces since this operation is listed in the graphical user interface.
“The WhatsApp server can therefore use the fact that it can stealthily reorder and drop messages in the group. Thereby it can cache sent messages to the group, read their content first and decide in which order they are delivered to the members. Additionally, the WhatsApp server can forward these messages to the members individually such that a subtly chosen combination of messages can help it to cover the traces,” the paper added.
Facebook’s Chief Security Officer Alex Stamos in no time responded to the WhatsApp vulnerability report and tweeted, “Read the Wired article today about WhatsApp – scary headline! But there is no [sic] a secret way into WhatsApp groups chats.” Stamos defended WhatsApp and said, “On WhatsApp, existing members of a group are notified when new people are added. WhatsApp is built so group messages cannot be send to hidden users and provides multiple ways for users to confirm who receives a message prior to it being sent.”
The company further claimed that it has looked at the vulnerability report following the researcher’s plan would necessitate a change to the way WhatsApp provides a popular feature called group invite links which are used millions of times per day. “In sum, the clear notifications and multiple ways of checking who is in your group prevents silent eavesdropping. The content of messages sent in WhatsApp groups remain protected by end-to-end encryption,” Stamos added.

Facing all-round criticism for raking in a windfall profit of over Rs 1,771 crore from customers in penalty for non-maintenance of monthly average balances in their savings accounts, SBI today said it is looking at revising minimum balance amount and penalty charges.The country’s largest lender SBI which has over 402 million savings account holders, had reintroduced monthly average balance (MAB) charges from April 2017 after a gap of five years. Accordingly, the bank demands Rs 5,000 in MAB in metros and Rs 1,000 in rural accounts, failing which it charges a penalty.As a result, between April and November 2017, the bank had netted a windfall of Rs 1,771.67 crore, which is more than its second quarter profit, as penalties from customers for non-maintenance of MAB, a finance ministry data.”A review of the monthly average balance is something we’ve been looking at continuously since we had brought it back in April and we have already brought it down in October a bit. Now we are in the process of reviewing it again,” MD for retail and digital banking PK Gupta told reporters here today.He said the bank is doing a comprehensive review of the MAB and penalty for non-maintenance of the same, based on the feedback it has received and will soon announce it.Currently, the bank has a MAB of Rs 3,000 for the metro and urban accounts and the non-maintenance penalty varies Rs 30-50 plus taxes.For semi-urban and rural branches, the amount is fixed at Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000, respectively and the penalty for non-maintenance is in the range of Rs 20-40 plus taxes.SBI has close to 40.5 crore saving bank account customers.SBI had reintroduced monthly average charges from April 1, 2017, but had to revised downwards the penalties for non-maintenance of the minimum balance from October 1, after facing backlash from customers.While between April and October, The MAB was Rs 5,000 for metro accounts, which was brought down to Rs 3,000 per account. The penalty was also reduced from Rs 50-100 to Rs 20 -40, plus taxes.The bank recently said on an average balance of Rs 3,000 in the metros, SBI earned only Rs 6 a month whereas for a minimum balance of Rs 1,000 in rural, it earned on Rs 2 per month which is meager compared to the services offered and the corresponding costs incurred by the bank (free cheque books, 8 free ATM transactions, free branch transactions).The bank had said savings bank accounts such as Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojna, small accounts and basic savings bank deposit accounts, pensioners, minors and all social beneficiary accounts are exempted from MAB requirement and no charges ever have been recovered.

Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli and his predecessor Mahendra Singh Dhoni are among the top players who are retained by their respective IPL franchises, Royal Challengers Bangalore and comeback outfit Chennai Super Kings respectively. The Indian Premier League (IPL) will be entering its 11th season this year and the deadline to submit the list of retained players was January 4. As per the latest guidelines issued by the IPL governing council, each team was allowed to opt for up to five players by virtue of a combination of Player Retention (Pre Player Auction) and Right to Match (RTM) (during the Player Auction).
Among these players, there can be a maximum of either three retentions or three RTMs at the discretion of the franchises and if there is no retention before the player auction, then franchises can have up to three RTMs, as per the norms put in place by the IPL GC.The break-up is: Maximum number of 3 capped Indian players, 2 overseas players and 2 uncapped Indian players each. The player retention price guideline for salary cap charged has also been set as Rs 33 crore (for 3 players pre auction), Rs 21 crore (for 2 players pre auction) and Rs 12.5 crore (for 1 player retained pre-auction).The council also revealed that each team can consist of a maximum number of 25 players (up to 8 overseas players) and a minimum of 18. The player pool available for CSK and RR for retention/RTM will be the players who played for them respectively in IPL 2015 and who were part of Rising Pune Supergiant and GL squads in IPL 2017, as per the norms.
This year, the salary cap has also been increased from Rs 60 crore to Rs 80 crore and will increase to Rs 82 and 85 crore respectively in 2019 and 2020. However, the minimum spend has been fixed at 75 percent of the salary cap for each season.Among the top Indian players, MS Dhoni returned to Chennai Super Kings with Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli stays with Royal Challengers Bangalore while Rohit Sharma will once again lead the Mumbai Indians. Hardik Pandya was retained by Mumbai Indians while young Shreyas Iyer will once again represent the Delhi Daredevils. However, some veterans like Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh were released by their respective franchises.The surprise packages of the retention were Punjab’s Axar Patel, Bangalore’s Sarfraz Ahmed and Delhi’s Chris Morris.

The mega auction for the IPL 2018 Auction is scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on January 27 and 28, the Press Trust of India reported on Tuesday (December 19). The dates for the auction coincide with the South Africa-India Test at the Wanderers in Johannesburg as well as the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali domestic T20 tournament. The dates for the two-day auction process were ratified at the IPL Governing Council meeting held in New Delhi on December 6. It was in that meeting that BCCI apprised the franchise representatives about the retention process. The auction ahead of the 11th season of IPL will be a bigger affair than usual, given that each franchise can retain a maximum of five players from their existing rosters through a combination of pre-auction retention and Right To Match (RTM) cards. According to a report on ESPNCricinfo, teams have until January 4 to submit their retention lists while the BCCI itself will make public their full list of to-be-auctioned players on January 18. Franchises will each begin with an auction purse of INR 80 crores to build a 25-member (max) squad. This increase in purse value (up from INR 66 crores in 2017) is a direct consequence of the increased revenue for the league through title rights sale. Each team will have to spend at least 75 percent of the salary cap (INR 60 crore) by the end of the two-day procedure. Retained players will have a more dynamic effect on the team's salary purse depending on the number of players retained by the franchise.

He is pushing the party ahead. He is one leader who has higher popularity than the party. And reverse is the case with Rahul Gandhi,” Mr Parrikar said when asked whether the PM’s campaign helped the BJP retain power in Gujarat.

BlackBerry's first Android phone, the Priv, will no longer be receiving any security updates, according to the Canadian mobile maker. Also announced at the same time was a trade-up program for users still using the Priv or a BlackBerry 10 device to upgrade their devices to the BlackBerry KeyONE at, hopefully, a discounted price.
However, BlackBerry has claimed on its blog that they will still continue to provide software support in case a serious security vulnerability is detected for the Priv. BlackBerry also said that all warranty obligations of the device will also be fulfilled.The Priv was announced in India back in 2016 for a price of Rs 62,990. Range Rover Velar launched in India. Prices for the new Range Rover Velar start at Rs 78.83 lakh ex-showroom (India). Bookings for the Velar have begun, while deliveries will commence from the end of January 2018. The Velar is the Fourth model in the Range Rover family and is positioned between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. The new Range Rover Velar is available with three powertrain options: 2.0-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol and 3.0-litre diesel.
The Velar sports an almost coupe-like roofline with a wide stance, while the SUV continues to get the Range Rover design language. Now the telecom has revised it and is offering 2GB data per day. On the other hand, under the Rs 549 plan, the telecom used to give 3GB data and is now offering 3.5GB data per day with unlimited calling and SMS benefits. Both the plans come with a validity of 28 days.
This means that Airtel subscribers will now get 56GB data under the Rs 349 plan and 84GB data under the Rs 549 plan. This is the second time that the company has revamped its Rs 349 plan. In the beginning the company used to offer 1GB data, which later changed to 1.5GB and has now become 2GB.Last month, Airtel introduced a plan for Rs 999 for its postpaid users. Under the Rs 999 plan, the Airtel postpaid users will get 50GB data, unlimited local and STD calls as well as free roaming calls. The plan falls under the 'My Infinity Plan' of the company and is available for both existing and new Airtel customers.
Under this plan, the subscribers will also be able to avail the company's 'data rollover' offer. As part of the 'data rollover offer', the unused data will be forwarded to the next billing cycle of the user. According to the plan, once a user exhausts his 50GB data limit, then he will be charged at a rate of 50 paisa per MB.

Maruti has launched the much-awaited Celerio X in India at a starting price of Rs. 4.57 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. The CelerioX is based on the Celerio hatchback but comes with many visual changes that give it a rugged, sporty look. The CelerioX gets a different front bumper with new “X” shaped design. More than Four million donors in India have signed up for Facebook’s blood donation feature and the company will now expand this feature to Bangladesh, the social media giant has said. In October, Facebook launched a new blood donations feature, starting in India, to make it easier for people to donate blood. “There are now more than four million blood donors signed up on Facebook in India. “In addition to enabling people in need to connect to blood donors, our tools also allow organisations to connect to donors more efficiently,” Naomi Gleit, Vice President, Social Good, said in a blog post late on Wednesday.
Hospitals, blood banks and non-profits can create voluntary blood donation events on Facebook, and nearby donors are notified of the opportunities to donate blood. “In early 2018, we will expand blood donations to Bangladesh, where, like India, there are thousands of posts from people looking for blood donors every week,” Gleit noted. Facebook also announced new tools and initiatives to help people keep each other safe and supported on its platform. At the second annual Social Good Forum in New York late on Wednesday, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company is introducing a new mentorship connection programme, new fundraising tools, blood donation initiative and the suicide prevention programme.
“Mentorship and Support is a new product where mentees and mentors come together to connect and interact directly with each other and progress through a guided programme developed by nonprofit organisations,” Gleit posted. All donations made through Facebook payments to nonprofits will now go directly to those organisations. “Facebook Donations Fund” is a $50 million annual fund for 2018 to help communities recover from disaster by direct contribution.
“People will now be able to sync their off-Facebook fundraising efforts to Facebook fundraisers, making it easier to tell friends and family about the causes they support on and off Facebook,” the company said. When people connect their off-Facebook fundraising campaign with Facebook, it creates a Facebook fundraiser that syncs with their campaign page. Facebook also introduced a Community Help API, which will give disaster response organisations access to data from public “Community Help” posts that can offer important information about the needs of people affected by a particular crisis. “We are piloting the Community Help API with NetHope and the American Red Cross,” Facebook said.

The initiative – that will use pattern recognition to detect posts or live videos where someone might be expressing thoughts of suicide to help authorities respond faster — will eventually be available worldwide, except the European Union, Facebook said in a blog post on Tuesday. “Facebook is a place where friends and family are already connected and we are able to help connect a person in distress with people who can support them. “It’s part of our ongoing effort to help build a safe community on and off Facebook,” wrote Guy Rosen, Vice President of Product Management at Facebook. In October, Facebook worked with first responders on over 100 wellness checks based on reports it received via its proactive detection efforts. “We use signals like the text used in the post and comments (for example, comments like “Are you ok?” and “Can I help?” can be strong indicators). “In some instances, we have found that the technology has identified videos that may have gone unreported,” Rosen said. Facebook has a team that includes a dedicated group of specialists who have specific training in suicide and self harm. “We are also using AI to prioritise the order in which our team reviews reported posts, videos and live streams. This ensures we can get the right resources to people in distress and, where appropriate, we can more quickly alert first responders,” the blog post read. In addition to those tools, Facebook is using automation so the team can more quickly access the appropriate first responders’ contact information. “We have teams working around the world, 24/7, who review reports that come in and prioritise the most serious reports. We provide people with a number of support options, such as to reach out to a friend,” Rosen informed. Facebook in September said it was working with suicide prevention partners in India to collect phrases, hashtags and group names associated with online challenges encouraging self-harm or suicide. Agreeing to that, the judge, Chief Magistrate Emma Louise Arbuthnot, said, "Let's not bring in new things into the case which may delay the hearing."At the last hearing in the case on October 3, the UK's Crown Prosecution Service, which is arguing the case on behalf of the Indian authorities, had presented additional "supplemental" charges of money laundering. Mr Mallya has also been accused of fraud, with his defunct Kingfisher Airlines owing more than Rs. 9,000 crore to various banks in India. The liquor baron, who was once dubbed the "King of Good Times", has been living in what he has called a "self-imposed exile" in Britain. He left India in March last year as the banks started collaborating on the recovery of the loans. On May 9, he was found guilty of contempt by the Supreme Court, after he was found to have sent his children millions of dollars.

Yamaha Motor India is all set to introduce the new YZF-R15 V3.0 and the recently unveiled YZF-R3 in the country. Now, TOI reports that Yamaha is planning to launch the new YZF-R15 V3.0 at or before the 2018 Auto Expo. Yamaha will also showcase the YZF-R3 at the auto show which will be introduced in India with ABS for the very first time.
The new YZF-R15 V3.0 has been already spotted testing on the Indian roads and Yamaha has revealed that the testing of the motorcycle is about to complete testing which indicates that the launch is nearing. The third-gen R15 has been already launched in foreign markets such as Thailand.
The India-spec R15 V3.0 will miss out on some premium components to keep the price in check. Conventional telescopic forks will replace the upside down forks and the motorcycle will be shod with MRF tyres as opposed to the IRC Road Winner. On the design front, the R15 V3.0 borrows its design cues from its bigger sibling the YZF-R1. The twin-LED headlamp setup is sharp and the fairing design has been tweaked. A recent leak shows that the OnePlus might be planning to launch a Star Wars edition of the smartphone. The ‘Movie Star Wars: The last Jedi’ is going to release on 15 December and the Star War themed OnePlus 5T in red is also expected to unveiled during the same period.
According to a report on Gizmochina the description about the Star Wars related theme was found in an APK for the launcher, its Settings and the system UI. The hex code for the colour is similar to Dark Red which is found on the Star Wars movie posters. First reported by XDA Developers, the website found many references for the Star Wars in the Android Oreo closed beta build.
The company has launched various Limited Edition devices based on different themes and this time, it may arrive in the form of a Star Wars-themed OnePlus 5T as well. The announcement about the same can be expected at the 16 November launch. If not at the launch, there is a possibility that it might be unveiled later before the release of the Star Wars movie.
The OnePlus 5T is expected to come with the same specifications as the OnePlus 5 except a 18:9 ratio display. According to a recent leak of the unboxing of the smartphone by a YouTuber the fingerprint has now been placed at the rear side of the device because of space restrictions on the front.
It is expected to come in two RAM and storage variant. The cheaper variant is expected to feature 6 GB RAM and 64 GB of internal storage whereas the other costlier variant will come with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB of internal storage option. The cameras are expected to remain the same which would be a 16 MP + 20 MP rear camera setup with a wide and telephoto lens and a 16 MP front-facing unit for selfies. The are also rumours about front-facing camera getting bumped up to a 20 MP unit, which is an upgrade that would be similar to what we saw on the OnePlus 3T.

Mukesh Ambani family has topped the list of Asia’s 50 Richest Families with a net worth of $44.8 billion, up $19 billion from the previous year, Forbes said. Despite dropping to the second spot, Korea’s Lees of the Samsung empire still saw its wealth soar by $11.2 billion to $40.8 billion this year as shares of Samsung Electronics moved up 75% over the past year.
According to Asia’s 50 Richest Families compiled by Forbes, Hong Kong’s Kwok family, Asia’s richest real estate household that controls Sun Hung Kai Properties, ranked third this year with a net wealth of $40.4 billion. Thailand’s Chearavanont family of the Charoen Pokphand Group took the fourth spot on the list, with a net worth of $36.6 billion. The Ambanis are the only Indian family on the top 10 richest families list in Asia. “No family highlights this surge better than the Ambanis of India, this year’s biggest gainer in dollar and percentage terms,” Forbes said.
It noted that shares in Mukesh Ambani’s conglomerate Reliance Industries soared on the back of improved refining margins and the demand produced by its telecom arm, Reliance Jio, which notched up 140 million subscribers since it was launched in 2016. On the list of Asia’s Richest Families 2017, compiled by Forbes, India enjoys the biggest presence in the ranking for the third time with as many as 18 families.
Other richest Indian families on the list feature the Premjis (rank 11, $19.2 billion net worth), the Hindujas (12th, $18.8 billion), the Mittals (14th, $17.2 billion), the Mistrys (16th, $16.1 billion) and the Birlas (19th, $14.1 billion). Mohammad Hafeez, the Pakistan allrounder, has been suspended from bowling in international cricket by the ICC after an independent assessment found his action to be illegal. Hafeez was reported for a suspect action after the third ODI against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi last month and underwent an assessment on November 1 at Loughborough University in England.The assessment revealed that a majority of Hafeez’s deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the ICC’s regulations.
This is the third time in three years that Hafeez has been suspended from bowling in international matches. In November 2014, he was reported during a Test series against New Zealand and suspended from bowling in December. In April 2015, his remodelled action was found to be legal by the ICC and he was cleared to bowl, but a couple of months later he was reported again, after the Galle Test against Sri Lanka. Assessments confirmed once again that his action was illegal, and he was suspended from bowling for 12 months – the penalty, according to ICC rules, if a bowler’s action is found to be illegal twice within a period of 24 months.

The much-anticipated Mahindra Scorpio facelift officially went on sale in India priced at ₹ 9.97 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Mahindra has revised the variant names as well and SUV will primarily come in four variants – S3, S5, S7, and S11. The 2017 Mahindra Scorpio facelift comes with some noticeable cosmetic updates along with a host of new feature additions, made mainly to the cabin. The most interesting update has been made to the engine which now makes about 18 bhp more and Mahindra has also introduced a new Aisin-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The updated Mahindra Scorpio is powered by the same tried and tested 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, but the oil burner now comes in two states of tune – the existing 120 bhp version and a tuned 138 bhp version. The former version develops 280 Nm of peak torque, while the more powerful version develops 320 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard and now there is an automatic option as well, which uses the same 6-speed torque converter that does duty on the XUV500.
Visually, the design of the 2017 Mahindra Scorpio largely remains unchanged, but, the SUV does come with a bunch of styling updates, mainly to the front and rear section. Up front, the Scorpio facelift comes with a new radiator grille and instead of the chrome spikes, now we get a seven-slot unit inspired by the Mahindra Imperio’s grille. The headlamps are the same as the cluster design has been slightly tweaked and the SUV now also comes with a revised bumper with new larger fog lamps, wider airdam and additional cladding. Mahindra now also offers faux skid plate for both front and rear bumper.
From the sides, you hardly see any major updates, but the two mentionable changes include the new Alloy wheels and ORVMs. The rear end also comes with some considerable changes and the biggest change is the revised tailgate that now traded the stylish black element for a chrome slat at the centre. The taillamps have also been revised and instead of clear glass unit, the Scorpio now gets red units. A bigger roof-mounted spoiler and a revised bumper is also part of the updates.
The cabin has also gone through some considerable changes and now instead of the side facing jump seats, you get a proper bench seat for the third row and that too with a centre armrest. Having said that, in terms of dimensions, the Scorpio remains unchanged, so we think the third will come short on knee room for an average sized adult and will be more suitable for children. The SUV now also comes with new beige interior with matching upholstery and a revised dashboard that looks a lot more contemporary now with an updated touchscreen infotainment system that now supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The 2017 Mahindra Scorpio facelift is now well-equipped and more powerful. Currently, its biggest rival is the Tata Safari Storme but it also competes with 5-seater SUV s like the Renault Duster, the newly launched Captur and the Hyundai Creta.

Kohli has played seven Tests, 26 ODIs and 10 T20 internationals in 2017, the most by any player in the Indian team. “Definitely I do need a rest, why don’t I. When I think of the time my body should be rested I will ask for it, why not. I’m not a robot, you can slice my skin and check if I still bleed,” Kohli told reporters on the eve of the first Test against Sri lanka.
The India skipper also played 10 matches at the Indian Premier League‘s 10th season, and had warned about burnout. “This is one thing I don’t think people explain properly. There’s a lot of talk from outside in terms of workload whether a player should be rested or not. For example all cricketers play 40 games a year. Three guys who should get rest their workload are to be managed. Not everyone in the XI would have batted 45 overs or not everyone would have bowled 30 overs in a Test. But the guys who are doing that regularly are the ones who need to be assessed.
His supreme athleticism on the field has rubbed onto other players in the side and they vouched for it. “I don’t think people look at the times spent on the crease, the number of runs, the number of overs, the conditions etc. I don’t think people will go into that analysis. Everyone play same number of games.”For example Pujara will have maximum workload because he spends maximum time at the crease as his game is built that way. You can’t compare that to a counter-attacking batsman because the workload would have been lesser.
“All these things have be taken into consideration purely because of the fact that we have built such a strong core team now of 20-25 players. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) launched the Cliq in India in August 2017 as the most affordable Honda scooter aimed at the rural markets. The Cliq has crossed the 10,000 sales mark in the country in less than four months of its launch. Tetsuya Komine, Deputy Director, Sales and Marketing, HMSI shared this information with carandbike at the launch of the latest from Honda – the all-new 125cc Grazia. HMSI had stated while launching the Cliq that it is meant for both male and female riders and will prove comfortable for areas that don’t have very refined roads. Hence, it comes with knobby tyres.
It is powered by a 110cc BSIV HET (Honda Eco Technology) engine that makes 8 bhp @ 7000 rpm and 8.94 Nm of torque @ 5500 rpm with automatic transmission. It has a claimed top speed of 83 km/h. The Cliq is slightly lighter than the Activa at 102 kg of kerb weight. The fuel tank capacity is 3.5 litres. The claimed fuel economy is 60 kmpl.
The block pattern tubeless tyres on the Cliq provide better grip and control on rough surfaces, and Honda claims they also have a longer life. The seat height is a comfortable 743mm and there is a 14-litre storage space under the seat. It also features an optional mobile charging point.
For safety, the Cliq comes equipped with Honda’s Combi Brake System (CBS) with equaliser, a system that manages the distribution of braking force between the front and rear brake just by pulling the left lever. The Cliq will come with drum brakes both front and back. It should also be noted that systems like CBS will be mandatory on all two-wheelers up to 125cc starting 1st April 2018.
Honda also offers optional accessories with the Cliq, such as a front screen, floor cover, box centre, cap cover and rear grip. It is available in four colours – Patriotic red with white, black, Morrocan blue with white and Orcus grey.

The Saudi Arabian government has approved the practice of yoga as a sports activity, claimed a social media post of Nouf Marwaai, founder of the Arab Yoga Foundation in the Saudi kingdom.
“Yoga, which literally means ‘union‘. A union of individual with ones wellbeing, a body to mind, emotions & soul, nation to globe has officially arrived at the sea shore of Saudi Arabia. It has crossed the boundaries of fundamentalism…ideological extremism,” she said in a Facebook However, the account is not verified by the social media site.
She also wrote that since, its inception in Saudi, “Yoga has observed a topsy-turvy path, with me as a medium. God gave me strength to fight all difficulties, real difficulties. God was with me as an observer and infused courage in me whenever required. Here is a day, that finally practicing yoga is no more a deviant behaviour in Saudi.”
She also thanked the Indian Government and the Consulate General for “unlimited” support.
This development comes at a time when many Muslims in India and elsewhere are under pressure from their religious leaders not to practice yoga which they claim is
“un-Islamic“.
Last week, Rafia Naaz, a woman yoga teacher in Ranchi, was allegedly threatened by members of her community after she performed yoga.
Yoga has been promoted in a big way by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with concerted efforts by the government, the United Nations has also declared June 21 as ‘International Yoga Day’.

Facebook may soon start testing two features — “red envelope” that would enable users send money to others from the platform, and a “breaking news” tag that publishers can use to make people aware of the latest happenings around them. The two new features, which are not officially under testing mode yet, were first spotted by Matt Navarra, director of social media at the online publication The Next Web. According to Recode, Facebook confirmed that the “breaking news” tag was for a future test, but declined to share more details.
Recode said that the social media giant, however, neither gave information about “red envelope” feature, nor denied its existence.”Facebook is always testing new product experiences but there’s nothing specific to talk about at this time,” a Facebook representative was quoted as saying. The report pointed out that it is also possible that these features will never be launched. Earlier this year, Facebook rolled out group payments feature within its Messenger app, allowing users to pay either everyone in the group or individual members.
Facebook is also testing a paywall in its Instant Articles feature — on Android and not iOS devices — in partnership with a small group of publishers across the US and Europe.Facebook will support the subscription-based news product in Instant Articles for both metered models (starting with a uniform meter at 10 articles) and “freemium” models (the publisher controls which articles are locked).

Samsung is reportedly working on bezel-less 18:9 “Infinity Display” to its mid-range Galaxy A series (2018 edition). “While the Galaxy A5 (2018) will have an Infinity Display, it may not be curved. In that case, it will be similar to the one we find on the Galaxy S8 Active,” SamMobile reported late on Thursday. his would mean a major upgrade to the A series as all previous Galaxy A handsets come with a conventional 16:9 aspect ratio display.
Samsung introduced this longer-than-wider display with Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones to coincide with its “Infinity Display“. The company’s latest flagship Galaxy Note 8 also sports the same aspect ratio and “Infinity Display”. According to SamMobile, the upcoming device is being tested with Android 7.1.1 Nougat onboard. The new edition of Galaxy A series is expected to hit the market early next year.
Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy A7 2018 was also spotted on GeekBench with model number SM-A730F as well as on GFXBench database. The Geekbench and GFXBench revealed some specs of the smartphone. The listing on the two benchmarking websites revealed that the smartphone came with a 6-inch Full HD+ Infinity Display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection and 2160 x 1080 pixels resolution. The smartphone further had 2.1GHz Octa-Core Exynos 7885 14nm processor, 4GB or 6GB of RAM, 32GB ROM, Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS out of the box and featured a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera.

Dhoni has come under scrutiny following his low strike rate and a 37-ball 49 in the second T20I in Rajkot against New Zealand where India fell short of 40 runs while chasing down 197 on a flat track.However, Nehra come out in support of Dhoni and said that the former Indian skipper should be allowed to play as long as he wants and as long as his body allows.
The 39-year-old further insisted that if he would have been a coach or captain, he would have made Dhoni played for another two to three years. “In every house, you need an elder one and he is there. I hope till next two to three years or as long as his body allows he plays. Cricket is a game of conditions definitely and it is not easy to perform. If it was in mind or if I am coach or captain I will be on his head that he has to play. I am not saying he doesn’t perform he has to play. He is the first guy who will raise his hand and say I am retiring if he is not performing. But I personally feel we should leave at MS Dhoni and let him play cricket,” Nehra said.
“He is one guy who is very honest with himself and the country. So, he should definitely play. I see him even to play T20 World Cup in 2020. If I can be a fast bowler at the age of 39. So, with MS Dhoni and his fitness, he can definitely play,” he added.In Rajkot T20I, Dhoni entered the ground at the start of ninth over when India was batting at 67/4. He started slowly and ended up with 49 of 37 balls.

Murali Vijay is expected to make his comeback for India in the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.Murali Vijay scored a century in Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy match against Odisha. Vijay is on a comeback trail after a long layoff due to injuries sustained during India’s home Test season. Vijay was the regular opener for India in all 13 matches that they played against New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia. He and Ravichandran Ashwin then sat out the Indian Premier League while Ravindra Jadeja and Virat Kohli joined their respective teams at a later stage. Vijay also could not play in the three-match Test series against Sri Lanka and is now expected to make his return when India host Sri Lanka for another three-match rubber starting on November 16.
Vijay opened the innings for Tamil Nadu along with captain Abhinav Mukund. The latter did not last long but he has since been partnered ably by young Narayan Jagadeesan. Jagadeesan was then dismissed and missed out on a second First Class century by 12 runs. Baba Indrajith and Vijay have since stuck together at the crease. Vijay may have been India’s first choice opener in Test series for some time now but Mukund, Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul all performed well in the Sri Lanka series. Shikhar Dhawan was especially belligerent, slamming 190 off 168 balls in the first Test and 119 in the third.
There have been calls for Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay to be selected as openers for the series against Sri Lanka. He has nine Test centuries and 15 half centuries to his name since he made his debut in 2008.

New Delhi, Nov 8 (PTI) Regulator IRDAI today said linkage of the unique identity number Aadhaar with Insurance policies is mandatory and asked insurers to comply with the statutory norms.
“The Authority clarifies that, linkage of Aadhaar number to Insurance Policies is mandatory under the Prevention of Money-laundering (Maintenance of Records) Second Amendment Rules, 2017,” the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDAI) said.
The government in June had notified the Prevention of Money Laundering (Maintenance of Records) Second Amendment Rules, 2017 making Aaadhar and PAN/Form 60 mandatory for availing financial services including insurance and also for linking the existing policies with the same.
In a communication to all life and general insurance companies, IRDAI said the rules have “statutory force” and as such they have to implement them without awaiting further instructions.
Commenting on the communication, MD and CEO of ICICI Lombard Bhargav Dasgupta said it is a progressive and logical step towards creating a unified platform for financial services and at the same time promote the government’s digitisation agenda.
“While there may be some short term challenges to overcome, we see significant long term benefits in terms of preventing frauds and streamlining the KYC process,” he said.
There are 24 life insurance companies and 33 general insurers operating in the country.

The Play Store is flooded with phony and potentially malicious versions of the chat app but what has caught the attention this time is the availability of WhatsApp Business on Play Store. First flagged up by Twitter user @MujtabaMHaq and later reported by WABetaInfo, a fake version of WhatsApp Business was spotted on Google Play Store as “Update WhatsApp Messenger” with developer name as ‘WhatsApp Inc*‘.
There are several fake versions of it. While one of the version shows about 5000 downloads, there’s another version that has 1 million downloads.

While Facebook is already under the lens for its role in Russia’s meddling into the 2016 U.S. election, the social media giant has now admitted that there are up to 270 million accounts on the platform that are either fake or duplicate.
Facebook recently announced its third-quarter earning and along with it, the company disclosed that there are tens of millions of fake and duplicate accounts on the platform. Further, Facebook has stated that nearly two-to-three percent of its 2.1 billion monthly users in the third quarter of 2017 were “users-misclassified and undesirable accounts”. The company also added that the number had gone up from the one percent it had estimated in July.
10 percent of its accounts were duplicates of real users, almost doubling its estimate of six percent from last quarter’s results, suggesting that in total, up to 13 percent of its 2.1 billion monthly users (almost 270 million accounts) were “illegitimate”. However, the company’s report has pointed out that improvements to the data used to identify fake accounts were behind the increase, rather than a sudden surge in fake users.
Meanwhile, this disclosure could lead to increased scrutiny of the social network in many countries. Facebook is already under scrutiny after it revealed that the Russian content on its platforms reached more users than reported earlier. According to a report in The Washington Post in October, Facebook was planning to tell lawmakers that 126 million of its users might have seen content produced and circulated by Russian operatives – many times more than the company had previously disclosed about their reach. Facebook had previously reported that nearly 10 million users had seen those ads.
Those numbers are central to Wall Street’s mixed reaction to the earnings report. Though revenue beat expectations, Facebook’s shares have fallen, in part because of stated plans to significantly increase spending in 2018.Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said some of that spending will be “focused on finding bad actors and bad behavior,” including removing false news stories and hate speech, much of which is hosted or amplified through fake or otherwise deceptive accounts. Zuckerberg said the efforts would “significantly impact our profitability going forward,” and that “protecting our community is more important than maximizing our profits.”
Of course, Facebook’s investment in security and screening is more accurately described as an effort to protect profits in the long term. The company, along with Google and Twitter, are currently facing tough questions from Congress over the role of social media in spreading Russian disinformation during the 2016 Presidential election. Failure to quash that phenomenon on its own terms could see Facebook eventually saddled with onerous regulations that could do even more damage to the bottom line.

Having endured much pain in his 18-year-long injury-littered yet successful career, Ashish Nehra says his body will be at peace as he bid adieu to international career on Wednesday.
“I will miss all this. That’s what you train for. One thing which will definitely be at peace will be my body. I said earlier that I can go a couple more years, but there can’t be a better time to walk away,” Nehra said after his swansong game in international cricket.
Nehra was asked by skipper Virat Kohli to bowl the last over of the first T20I match against New Zealand, which India won by 53 runs.
“I must be the one bowler who sent down the last over most number of times for India. But those times were different. There was no pressure today.”
Nehra said the game has changed a lot since he started playing.
“I played my first game here in 1997. The rules have changed and so many runs are being scored. But whatever happens, this team is here to stay. The future of Indian cricket is in safe hands for the next six-seven years,” he said.
Nehra said there are few moments that define cricketers and such moments also create their image.
“I have played under many different people, but it has been a memorable journey. I was telling Viru also this; he scored so many runs, but people still call him Multan ka Sultan, so you are remembered for a particular moment,” he said.
Nehra stopped playing Test cricket many years back but he has no regrets.
“At times, you pick up wickets off bad balls, but as a cricketer, you in front of a mirror need to realise how well you are playing and what you need to do. There are so many people who asked me if I would have liked to play Test cricket. But you can see the glass as half-full or half-empty.
“I last played Test cricket when I was 24 or 25, but at the end, to have played for 18 years and to be here standing in blue clothing and to have played my final match, I could not have asked for anything more. I have no regrets. I am always happy, retired or otherwise.”

Olympic bronze-medallist Gagan Narang won a silver medal in the men’s 50m rifle prone event of the Commonwealth Shooting Championships in Gold Coast on Monday.
Annu Raj Singh, who also made a comeback in the Indian team, had a good outing as she cruised her way to win the bronze medal in the women’s 50m pistol competition.
The 2010 CWG gold medallist shot a total of 28 in the finals to finish third.
London Olympics bronze medallist Narang, who is appearing in his first major tournament since the 2016 Rio Olympics, shot a total of 617.6 in the qualification to end fourth.
In the finals, he shot 246.3 to end just 1.4 points adrift the leader and settled for the second place.
“It was a very windy day and I had to dig deep. It was a test of my patience as I had to release my shots at the right time,” the 2010 CWG Gold medal said.
Narang knows that there is a lot of work to be done ahead of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
“It was a test event for the Commonwealth Games next year and one of the things to test was the wind conditions and I did just that today. The final score still can be better and I know that I need to put in some more in that direction,” he added.
India won a gold each in the men’s 10m air pistol and women’s 10m air rifle events, respectively, yesterday. On the first day of competition, Heena Sidhu clinched a gold medal in women’s 10m air pistol event.

England fast bowler James Anderson believes his team must end their 31-year winless streak in Brisbane next month against Australia to set a marker for the rest of the Ashes series.
A draw at the Gabba was enough for England to launch a successful Ashes tour of 2010-11, but Anderson wants to go one better to silence the home crowd.
“Both teams have gone through a transitional phase over the last two years,” Anderson, England’s record Test wicket-taker with 506 dismissals, told Sky Sports.
“Both teams have started to show signs of real quality I think but have also been pretty inconsistent, so it is going to be about whoever starts well.
“The Gabba has been a bit of a fortress for Australia, they’ve not lost there since 1988 so coming away from there with a result – whether it is a draw or a win – I think is important to how the series will go.”
Anderson was the leading wicket-taker as England won the Ashes in 2010-11 but has also been on the receiving end of two series whitewashes by Australia.
The 35-year-old believes the pitches in Australia and England in recent years have offered similar challenges.
“I think the same things apply as they do in England,” Anderson said of bowling in Australia.
“The biggest adjustment for me is that it is not going to swing as much, so finding other ways of getting wickets is important for myself.
“Generally though, the pitches are similar to in England. You might get a little bit more bounce and potentially a little bit less grass on them but generally they’re not that much different.”
The first match of the Five-Test series starts in Brisbane on November 23.

“Can you imagine an Ashes series where a Test match only goes four days? To have all of that watered down into four days is a bit of a blow, but I understand the whole importance of commercial viability and the economics of it. There is also tradition and history to consider. There have been so many changes over the last five or six years to cricket, even I am losing track,” Sangakkara told Sportsday Radio, according to Fox Sports.
“I’m not a big fan of four day Tests. I understand the thought process behind it to try and have fans interested and attract them so they don’t have to spend so much time. It’s also an advantage for local TV networks and sponsors.“But at the end of the day Test cricket has always been defined as five days. Records have been established, history has been made over five days,” he added.
Sangakkara said the expansion of T20 cricket, with several countries staging their own tournaments, has broadened the scope for a player to make a future in cricket. “Cricket has changed over the last few years, especially with franchise cricket coming in. Now there is a place for everyone. Not everyone will be able to play Test cricket and not everyone will be able to fit into a one-day or T20 side.”
On the question of whether a player should chose the format he wants to play, Sangakkara said, “I think there is nothing wrong with aspiring to be either. I think it’s completely up to the individual to decide where he wants to play.“Of course we tend to kind of impose on younger cricketers that Test cricket is where they should learn their skill and expect to be proficient.” However, the former cricketer said a player must get an opportunity to play in all three formats. “The beauty of it is that everyone’s talent and ability will allow them to explore where they can get to in each format. I don’t think it sells anymore to force or the other down someone’s throat.
“Of course, being a purist, you might argue with me and say ‘that’s blasphemy’. But to ensure that players have a balanced view of what cricket is they need to be allowed to explore all three formats,” he said.“Test cricket needs to be protected and safeguarded yes, but not just by forcing it down the throats of players, but by informing them and getting them to understand the culture and read about the history. Allow them to fall in love and take their own time to do it. It’s about balance and each individual finding his or her place,” he concluded.

Tamil Latest News - India and Bangladesh to restore snapped rail lines - Maalaimalar.com
Bangladesh Railway Minister Mujibal Haque said an initiative has been taken to reconnect railway lines with India in 12 places, which were snapped after partition of the country in 1947.
“We want to restore all the railway lines which existed before the partition of India. Now the initiative is on to restore rail connectivity in twelve places between Bangladesh and India. Both the governments are cooperating with each other in this regard,” he told reporters here last evening.
Haque was in the capital to attend a conference of Rotary Clubs of both the countries. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar inaugurated the conference.
The Bangladesh minister said the second rail bridge on the Titas and the Bhoirab rivers in Brahmanbaria district of his country was completed with funding from India, and that it would be inaugurated soon.
Apart from the ‘Moitree Express’ which runs between Dhaka and Kolkata, he said another train ‘Bandhan Express’ to run between Khulna in Bangladesh and Kolkata, was likely to be launched next month.
“There is also a proposal from Bangladesh side to launch a train to connect Rajshahi in Bangladesh and Kolkata,” he said.
Haque noted that the progress of the 15-km long ongoing Agartala-Akhaura project was satisfactory and land acquisition for the purpose in Bangladesh side was complete.
Land acquisition for the project in Indian side has also been completed, West Tripura District Magistrate and Collector, Milind Ramteke told reporters earlier.
The central government has released Rs 97.63 crore to acquire the land, he said.
The process of laying railway tracks to connect Agartala with Akhaura in Bangladesh would be completed next year, Haque said.
Out of the 15-km track, five km would be on Indian side and the rest in Bangladesh.
Ramteke stated that the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) was the nodal agency for implementation of the project in Indian side.
Former railway minister Suresh Prabhu and Haque had jointly laid the foundation stone of the project here on July 31 last.
A flyover of 3.7 km will be constructed on the Indian side to save cultivable lands and the entire project cost will be borne by the central government.
New Delhi is keen to establish the rail link as it will connect West Bengal and Tripura through Bangladesh.
The 1,700 km distance between Agartala and Kolkata, which goes through the chicken neck in Siliguri, would be reduced to 350 km if passengers could move through Bangladesh, officials said.

Kawasaki has unveiled the Ninja 400, which replaces the Ninja 300, with capacity up to 399cc and a significant increase in power and torque and is lighter as well.
The Japanese bike manufacturer revealed the Ninja 400 at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show along with the Kawasaki Ninja 250. The Kawasaki Ninja 400 is expected to debut in India at the 2018 Auto Show to be held in Delhi.

The boxes were accompanied by a written message in Spanish. It translated to: “A year ago we asked you to turn it off, we welcome you today on board.“This was a reference to the Galaxy Note 7 debacle. Last year when the reports of the Note 7 catching fire due to the battery problems surfaced, almost everywhere in the world airlines first banned the Note 7 from the check-in baggage and then later banned it altogether. The device was considered too dangerous to be carried on planes.
The Note 7 was later recalled by Samsung and after a few weeks killed. the company announced that it was scrapping all the Note 7 it made and asked consumers who had managed to get it to return the device back. The units that were not returned were later disabled with a software update.
The Note 8 was launch a few months ago. Samsung says that it took extra care for the battery in this phone and that it is perfectly safe for the daily use. This apparently is happening because OnePlus is now gearing up to launch the OnePlus 5T. But this has also led to some hand-wringing among OnePlus fans who wanted to buy the OnePlus 5T. The tweet by Carl Pei reflects on this criticism that OnePlus is facing due to non-availability of the OnePlus 5T in most market. With this out, let’s talk about the OnePlus 5T. Although details are right now scarce, here is what we know so far. The OnePlus 5T will launch in November. The global launch and India launch are likely to be simultaneous. Now this is for now a rumour. There is nothing confirmed about it. But given the fact that even OnePlus co-founder is hinting at a new phone, you can safely assume that the launch is near. Latest State of Mobile Networks report in India from OpenSignal reveals that Airtel still has fastest download speed among the four national 4G operators. It has an average download speed of 9.15Mbps, compared to Reliance Jio which has download speed of just 5.81Mbps, which is actually behind Vodafone and Idea with 7.45Mbps and 7.4Mbps download speeds, respectively. For the report datapoints were collected from over 7 lakh users during the period of June and August, says OpenSignal.
Airtel topped the 3G speed test as well with download speed of 3.62Mbps with Vodafone grabbing second spot at 3.12Mbps and Idea grabbing third spot with 2.6Mbps.
Reliance Jio’s LTE speeds has improved in the last six months, after the free data offer ended in March, says the report. In the six months between reports, Jio’s average 4G download speed results were up from 3.9 Mbps to 5.8 Mbps, which is a 49% increase, but during the time Airtel fell from 11.5 Mbps to 9.1 Mbps.
Even though it is the lowest of the four national 4G operators, because of Jio’s enormous LTE presence throughout India, it topped in its overall speed charts by averaging 5.81 Mbps, beating Airtel’s overall speed result of 5.05 Mbps. Airtel was on the top in the OpenSignal’s previous report in April.
The report also says that Reliance Jio has the best LTE coverage with 95.6% across the country. Airtel ranked at the bottom of OpenSignal charts. Airtel customers were only able to find a 4G signal 57.2% of the time, adds the report.

Huawei's online subsidiary brand, Honor, is all set to launch the successor of the Honor 6X on October 11. Dubbed Honor 7X, the new smartphone is set to launch in China first. The company confirmed the launch in a Weibo post.
The company's Weibo post seemingly also confirms that the Honor 7X will be sticking to the current trend, and may feature an 18:9 display or a full view display. Considering that the Honor 6X came with a dual camera setup at the back, we can expect the Honor 7X to also follow the suite.
MySmartprice spotted the Weibo post first, and also lists some of the rumoured specifications based on a 3C certification in China. The Honor 7X is said to pack a 5.5-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio which has lately been the trend for mid-range smartphones. Other rumoured specifications include Kirin 670 SoC, 4GB of RAM, 64GB storage, and will run on EMUI 5.1 based on Android Nougat.
To recall, the Honor 6X was launched in India this January. One of the most marketed features on the Honor 6X (Review) was its dual rear cameras. It comes with one 12-megapixel Sony IMX386 sensor that support PDAF and a secondary 2-megapixel sensor right below it, helping provide depth-of-field or Bokeh effects. On the front, Honor 6X bears an 8-megapixel front camera with a 77-degree wide-angle lens and 1.25-micron pixels. Considering the Honor 6X was launched in India at a starting price of Rs. 12,999, we can expect the Honor 7X to be priced around the same price point when it is made available in India.

Indian automaker Mahindra is working on developing an all-new electric scooter for the Indian market which is based on the Gusto's platform.Autocar Professional reports that Mahindra is working on electrification of its existing scooter rather than developing an all-new platform.Chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra's tweet during his visit to the research and development facility in Pune said, "A peek at the electric variant under development." The same R&D centre is working on the Jawa brand.
Mahindra also announced a major restructuring in October 2016 and announced Peugeot Motorcycles (PMTC), Classic Legends and Mahindra Two Wheelers (MTWL) as their three brands to drive the business forward. The electric scooter project based on the Gusto is reportedly positioned under the MTWL within the overall two-wheeler business. With the government focusing on electric vehicles several other companies are also working on electric two-wheelers.
Bangalore-based Ather Energy is developing India's first smart electric scooter, the S340 with production commencing from December 207 or January 2018. Hero MotoCorp has also shown its interest to enter electric two-wheeler segment. Bajaj Auto has recently announced its plans in the EV two-wheeler segment. In fact, the company has created a separate brand called as Urbanite which will develop battery-powered vehicles. Pune -based Tork Motorcycles is also readying its electric T6X motorcycle. TVS is also reportedly testing an electric scooter.
The Government of India aims to have all-electric vehicles by 2030 and is heavily promoting the use of eco-friendly vehicles. Now, Mahindra has also entered the segment and will develop battery-powered scooters in India. The competition in the electric two-wheeler segment looks fierce with all the major companies developing new products.

Reliance JioPhone was pre-booked by millions of people according to the company when the 4G feature phone was up for pre-orders last month. The pre-orders of JioPhone started on August 24 with the deliveries slated to be in the first half of September, possibly before the 10th of the month. However, not only Jio halted the pre-orders due to heavy demand, it also pushed the delivery date for the phone to September 21. Now, the company will also going to miss this date, India Today Tech has learnt. The JioPhone will now be delivered to people who have pre-booked it from October 1.
Some reports earlier claimed that JioPhone would be delivered to consumers during Navratri. "Yes, the company had scheduled the phone delivery date for Navratri - to be precise - JioPhone delivery date was set for September 24, at least that's what we were informed earlier, but then now it has been delayed," a Jio-authorised retailer who is supposed to provide deliveries to JioPhone customers told India Today Tech.Speaking to a few retailers, India Today Tech has learned that JioPhone delivery has been pushed again. One retailer said, "We got a message from the company (Jio) that the delivery has been postponed to October. The JioPhone delivery will start from October 1." Another retailer said, "We have no information about the delivery as of now, but then as far as we are aware the phones will be delivered between October 1 and October 3." Although retailers confirmed about the delay in delivery of the JioPhone they were not in a position shed more light on reasons for the delay. Earlier Jio had hinted that it got more interest in the phone than what it had provisioned for.
When will the JioPhone pre-orders start again?
Millions of people have booked it but many are still waiting for the pre-orders to start again. Although Jio claims that the pre-booking processes of the JioPhone will resume soon, some retailers claim that it may not, at least not anytime soon. The pre-orders, as retailers have revealed, will start probably after the delivery of the first lot of JioPhone, which is expected to happen around the first week of October.
How to book JioPhone?
JioPhone was earlier available for booking on both online and offline channels. People who have booked the JioPhone via Jio.com will be notified by Jio via text message when they can go and pick the device from their nearest retailer. Jio will send the details of the store to the person, and they will have to go to the mentioned Jio Digital store to get their JioPhone. The same process follows for consumers who have booked the JioPhone offline. They will also be notified by Jio as and when the JioPhone hits the stores.
Documents to carry to get JioPhone
It is important that all buyers should carry required documents before going to collect their JioPhone. The most important is the code that Jio would have sent to them after pre-booking of the phone was completed. "We will deliver the JioPhone based on the code that the consumer provides us," says a retailer. Apart from the code, the consumer needs to carry their Aadhaar card as well. "You have to produce your Aadhaar card. We will not deliver JioPhone without verifying Aadhaar," says a retailer.
At the time of collecting the JioPhone from the store, the consumer will have to pay a sum of Rs 1,000 - which is a part of a refundable amount of Rs 1,500. To recall, Rs 500 was taken as part f the same fee while booking the phone.
JioPhone is effectively free. To get the phone though consumers will have to give Rs 1500 fee, which will be refunded in case the consumers gives the phone back within 3 years. After getting their JioPhone, buyers will have to subscribe to data packs, which are available at a starting price of Rs 153.
